Our mission is to establish "trust" of, by, and in hardware, software, and protocols. Malware, software viruses, defects in hardware/software, flawed protocols, and hardware failures cause major disruption in IT infrastructure. They have large negative social impact because the IT systems are deeply integrated with the society. From large systems such as e-commerce, bank, and government systems, to wired/wireless networks and embedded systems, IT systems have become increasingly found in daily life.
For an entity including a human being to "trust" another party at the other end of the network, it requires that (1) the entity can certifiably communicate its identity and environment to the other party, and that (2) All IT system components (hardware, software, protocols) behave as intended. Our research theme focuses developing techniques addressing these two subtopics to achieve the mission of establishing "trust".
